Ikorodu United Defeat Calabar Rovers To Go 3rd on Bet9ja NNL Log

Rovers of Calabar over the weekend became the first team to score a goal against Ikorodu United at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on match day 4 of the Bet9ja NNL 2017/2018 Season.

The Oga Boys came bak from a disappointing FA cup tie with non-league Sido Fc where they (Ikorodu United) blew a 6-1 lead in a match 6-6 at full time.

Sunday was however a different ball game on match day 4 when Ikorodu United welcomed the Rovers Of Calabar. The Oga Boys started the match very vibrant and looked more dangerous with their build up going forward.

It didn’t take long before Ikorodu United fans voices will be the loudest from a well worked goal which saw Samuel Stone (17th minute) finish with a deft touch from a clever through pass by Gafar Lasisi.

The second goal came from the provider of the first goal after a beautiful cross by Dede found Gafa Lasisi who matched the beautiful cross with a beautiful flying touch to make it 2-0 on the dot of the 19th minute.

The Lagos team picked up from were they left off in the first in the second half but had to wait until the 53rd minute, when Dede Moughara hit the net with a brilliant stunner for the third goal and his second in four games for the season.

Rovers got a consolation goal and became the first team to score Ikorodu United at home this season.

Speaking with the media after the game Gafar Lasisi said that the team was determined more than ever to repay the trust and support the management has given to them. “We are grateful to the management and staff of the team, we also want to thank the fans for their immense support, we promise to give our best week in week out”.

United are now third on the Bet9ja NNL League table and will travel to face Osun United on Wednesday, in a midweek Match Day 5 encounter.

Ikorodu United striker, Jude Aneke had told the Papilo FC goalkeeper before the game that he would score against him in their Nigeria National League (NNL) Southern Conference Matchday 11 tie at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

And true to his words it was Aneke’s lone strike for the Oga Boys in the 55th minute that sealed the deal for the Oga Boys as they claimed the maximum 3points on offer.

Speaking with IUFC Media after the match said Jude Aneke Said: “I told the goalkeeper I will score against him before the match started and I scored “It was a great feeling for me and the team. As a team, we have no option than to win so our fans can smile.”

His goal against Papilo FC brings his goals tally to 6 thereby making the Top Scorer for his NNL Side this term.

Meanwhile The Oga Boys will on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere host rivals, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM FC) of Lagos in ‪Lagos State FA Cup‬ Round 8 (quarter-final) match.

As part of the programmes for the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season scheduled to get underway this weekend, the management of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football and Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) thought it wise to organise an exhibition game and a seminar for Lagos-based fans.

The team manager of the modest NPFL outfit, Sunday Ojieh spoke about the importance of the two-in-one event that will hold at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium on Thursday afternoon by 2pm.

“The exhibition match and the seminar for our fans is very important. The Lagos State Football Association led by Seyi Akinwunmi has been very magnanimous and supportive to us since our sojourn in the league.

“Just as we are planning to have a great and remarkable season, the LSFA saw the need with us to create an atmosphere of love, peace and harmony that will be devoid of hooliganism and hostility, where the fans of the team will come to the stadium and have evergreen experience without any form of violence irrespective of the outcome of the game, hence the need for the seminar and the exhibition match,” the vibrant team manager told mountaintopfc.com.

The seminar will commence by 2pm while the exhibition match between two Lagos-based teams will kickoff by 3pm at the same venue.

LMC Postpones Rivers United, Ikorodu Utd Clash

The League Management Company (LMC) has postponed the match day 29 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game between Rivers United and Ikorodu United.

The postponement was at the behest of Rivers United following an auto crash involving the club’s official vehicle on Thursday in Ndele, Rivers State which left several players and official injured.

In a release signed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LMC, Salihu Abubakar on Friday, the request of Rivers United FC to postpone the game which was based on medical advice was granted.

A new date for the fixture is yet to be announced.

Rivers United is currently in third place of the NPFL standings with 44 points from 26 matches while Ikorodu United is in 19th place with 16 points from 25 matches.

Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye has congratulated Rivers United following their impressive 3-2 victory against Ikorodu United on Sunday.

Guy Kuemian, Chukwunonso Okonkwo and Wilson Andoh all scored in the first half as the ‘Pride of Rivers’ overcame Ikorodu United by the odd goal in five at the Onikan Stadium in a rip roaring match day nine Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) contest.

Honourable Iyaye acknowledges that the win on Sunday was heart-warming but warned that all playing and coaching staff of the club must continue to put their feet firmly on the ground as “the road to success is a long walk’.

“I want to congratulate Rivers United for this hard-fought victory over Ikorodu United but then the players and coaches at the club need to understand that it is not yet uhuru.

“The road to success is a long walk and so they must remain resolute, committed and hard working in training and matches.

“I also want to use this medium to tell them that the Rivers State Government will continue to prioritize their welfare all through the season,” Honourable Iyaye said.

Rivers United is currently in seventh place on the NPFL standings with 13 points from nine matches.

Giwa Fc Grab A Late Winner Against Ikorodu United At Onikan

Gbenga Ogunbote’s Giwa FC compounded the woes of Ikorodu United as they lost 2-1 at the Onikan Stadium on Sunday.

Giwa took the lead after just five minutes through their striker David Sunday. The Oga boys drew level in the 16th minute when Ifegwu Ojukwu exquisitely chipped the ball over the onrushing Giwa FC goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo.

In the second half, it was all about Ikorodu United creating chances but lacking the finishing to get on the score sheet. In the 88th minute, Amos Gyang secured all three points for the Jos Elephants when he finished off a training ground routine free kick.

Giwa FC coach Gbenga Ogunbote said after the match he knew Ikorodu United will be desperate to get a win after losing their last two matches and his side where “lucky” the game went the way they planned. Ikorodu United Assistant coach Okechukwu Emechete on the other hand expressed his disappointment about the result and revealed that the new technical adviser will “psych up” the players.

Ikorodu United are now in the 17th position on the league table while Giwa FC who have 10 points from 6 matches are in 9th position.
