DALUNG SEEKS DSTV PARTNERSHIP FOR NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is seeking support and partnership from stakeholders in the sports industry especially the Corporate Nigeria.

The Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung made this known when he visited SuperSport Studios in Lagos to solicit their co-operation in the forth coming National Youth Games billed for September 22 to 30, 2016.

He noted that the the industry had enjoyed a seamless relationship with SuperSport and the impact of the relationship could be attested to by Nigerians.

“We believe that you should be part of everything we do and continue to contribute to sports not only in supporting us but also in promoting whatever ideas we have and advising us where necessary because of your wealth of experience and nurturing it to success”.

Barrister Dalung said that the concept of the Youth Games is intended at getting young talents. He however regretted the frustration in trying to achieve the dream.

“This dream has been frustrated either by political activities or lack of funds. It is fundamental to the performance of Nigeria in international competitions because if you don’t develop your reservoir of talents, then whatever you are boasting of today is subject to depletion. Some of the athletes we took to Rio have been recycled for too long and that is an indictment on a country like Nigeria with a population of 80 million youths. So we think we should go back to resuscitate the National Youth Games and harvest our talents, develop them, prepare our future Olympic materials and reposition ourselves to probably give the world a proper contest in terms of games. We cannot achieve this without your robust support and co-operation because you are key actors and partners in sports development and we must take you along. We are not just coming for morale support and promotion because you have been doing all these. We want you to be actively involved in driving the entire concept to success” Dalung stated.

Responding, Awogu thanked the Minister for the honour given to SuperSport and recalled SuperSports early production of the Nigerian league 9 years ago with the NTA.

” Since then, we have been consistent with the production of the Nigerian league. We are happy today that you’ve brought up the idea of the National Youth Games because we believe that the future of Nigeria lies in the youths. We will in the little way we can, through publicity and otherwise support this project “.

ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 Delivers Records Across Broadcast And Digital

The recently concluded ICC World Twenty20 set records galore across broadcast and digital platforms, it was confirmed today.

The tournament, won by the West Indies men’s and women’s teams, which beat England and Australia in their respective finals at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 3 April, was the first major ICC event produced by ICC TV.

That involved coverage of 48 matches across seven venues in India using 30 cameras at each venue.

And, off the back of that effort, the ICC’s broadcast partners across the world delivered record ratings and viewership.

In India alone, the India versus Pakistan encounter rated 17.3 across the Star Sports network and Doordarshan, the best rated Twenty20 match ever since the final of the World Twenty20 in 2007, reaching 83 million people. And the cumulative in-home viewership for the event in India was 730 million, an increase of 114 per cent over the previous edition.

In Pakistan, on TEN Sports, India v Pakistan rated 14.5, a 100 per cent increase to the same encounter in the 2014 edition that took place in Bangladesh.

Across the official event website and App, ICC’s YouTube channel, ICC’s Facebook page, ICC’s Twitter and Instagram account and the regional and global live stories posted on Snapchat, there were more than 320 million video views – the highest mark ever for an ICC event.

During the event, 46 million people across the world engaged on Facebook, the most ever for any Twenty20 event in history, while the 85 press conferences streamed live on the ICC’s Facebook page had more than 10 million views.

On Twitter, there were 5.75 billion impressions of Tweets related to the ICC World Twenty20, an all-time record for any cricket event.

And during the event the ICC Instagram page tipped the one million follower mark.

The tournament also highlighted trends concerning fans’ consumption of the action.
On the official website http://www.icc-cricket.com, 49 per cent of the overall video views were on mobile (as opposed to desktop or laptop computers) while 60 per cent of the visits to the website were from a mobile device.
