Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has established Anti Doping Commission aimed at strengthening its fight against Doping in the local sport among players.
This is part of the elaborate plan put in place by the reigning local sports Federation of the year to help kick out the scourge that has threatened the local sports most notably Athletics which has received massive negative publicity with reports that up to 40 local runners testing positive for banned substances.
The last Anti Doping commission which also has two active players, Kenya Prisons ND national team libero Elizabeth Wanyama and beach Volleyball star Edinah Rotich of Kenya Commercial Bank will be chaired by KVF second vice President Kipkemei Sirma. Other are the Federation’s fixtures secretary Ishmael Chege, Emily Modena and Stephen Bore.
The principle mandate of the Anti Doping commission will be to create Anti-doping awareness amongst the players and officials of Volleyball.
The Federation’s Annual General Meeting held Saturday at Nyayo National stadium in Nairobi also established Mass Media, Public Relations, Marketing and Promotion Commissions.
The Media and Marketing body will be headed by coopted NEC member and former Criminal Investigative officer Isaac Tirop, the Federation Marketing officer Aggrey Chebeda and Sports Journalist Elvince Joshua.
Other existing commissions include the referees, coaches and Youth Development Commissions.
Meanwhile Ben Juma was confirmed as the replacement to Evans Wasike as the KVF Secretary General.
Wasike had resigned from the position about two months ago and Juma who was the deputy Secretary General got the unanimous support from the delegates and will serve the remainder of the term ahead of the 2018 national elections. However, Juma’s position will remain vacant in line with the Federation’s constitution which doesn’t allow for election to fill the vacancy arising from resignation unless they are more than one.
The meeting also resolved to expand the sports development programs by working closely with Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) and Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association to use selected Primary and High Schools as talent centres.
