Ahly Queens Crowned African Volleyball Champions For The 10th Time

Egypt’s Ahly captured their tenth historic Women’s African Club Championship title after they outclass their archrivals Carthage of Tunisia 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-11, 25-19) in the final of the competition at Ahly Hall in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

Ahly improved their record at the head of African Volleyball Clubs to 10 crowns under their name, while Carthage stayed with their only title in 2017.

Carthage started in their best form aided by the attacks of Kholoud Genhani and Yulia Vorona to win the first set 25-21.

Ahly improved markedly their reception and defence and reception to control the match and win the second and third sets easily 25-15 and 25-11.

The Egyptian team lead widely in the fourth set till they reached 23-14, when Carthage made a great turn over 23-19 before Ahly won the set 25-19 to clinch the cup.

Meanwhile Kenya Pipeline clinched the bronze medal following their victory over Algeria’s GSP 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-18) in the third place match.

This was the fourth Bronze medal for the Kenyan champions to be added to their shining history, which include 6 crowns, and 6 silver medals.

The Kenyan team dominated the match throughout its events and didn’t allow any comeback from the Algerians. The Newly shining Kenyan attacker Kiprono Sharon led the winners and match scorers with 17 points, While Zohra Bensalem led the Algerians with 13 points.

Pipeline were better in all the skills making 7-3 advantage in kill blocks, 9-7 in ace services and 42-28 in attacks.
