LEG LAGOS CHALLENGE: Kudos FC Emerge Champions

Kudos football club has emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the Pipul TV sponsored Leg Lagos Challenge international youth football tournament.

In the final match of the tournament organized by Don Balon Sports Commerz and ably supported by Lagos state sports commission and Lagos state Football Association, Ajegunle based Kudos fc on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun stadium, defeated Starbase fc of Ogudu 2-0 to cart home the giant trophy and the prize money of N500,000.

Earlier in the day, Freestan football club of Ajegunle, had defeated Pacers football club 2-0 to claim the third position in a pulsating encounter.

Kudos fc also did a clean sweep of the individual awards, as Alabi Apatapiti, Moses Chima and Warila Akpofagha claimed the highest scorer, best keeper and most valuable player awards respectively. While Ivory Soccer Academy won the ‘ Fair Play’ award and Danny Nazzeal, also of Ivory Academy was adjudged the best coach.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Executive Chairman, Lagos state sports commission praised the organizers for their professionalism and near-perfect organisation of the tournament. He went on to assure the organisers of the continued support of Lagos state government for subsequent editions.

The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters’ club, Rev. Samuel Ikpea was also effusive in praises of the organizers. As he described the standard of play and discipline exhibited by the participants, as highly commendable.

On his part, the Director-General of the tournament, Hon. Abdoubaq Ladi Balogun, expressed gratitude to God for a successful tournament. He was also particularly grateful to the government of Lagos state for providing an enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state.

” I want to say a big thank you to the government of Lagos state, and particularly, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who is truly living up to his promise of making Lagos state, the sporting hub in Africa,” he said.
” On behalf of the LOC, let me also express our immense gratitude and appreciation to our sponsor, Pipul TV for putting their money where their mouth is, as well as, Haggai sportswear, who magnanimously kitted all the teams, officials and guests, ” Balogun stated.

He went on to disclose that preparations have begun in earnest for the next edition slated to hold in March, 2019.

The final was witnessed by a coterie of distinguished individuals from different walks of life, including Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission; Rev. Samuel Ikpea, National Chairman, Nigeria Football Supporters’ Club; Hon. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, SSA, Sports to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode; Hon. Kamal Bayewu, Hon. MacAnthony Anaelechukwu, Special Adviser on Media to the Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun local government; representative of Hon. Kazeem Adeniji, Lagos State Commissioner for Justice, as well as representatives of Pipul TV, Haggai Sportswear, the Coaches and the Referees’ associations.
