Sam Ahmedu Praises Abuja City Basketball League.

Respected Basketball Administrator and President of FIBA Africa zone 3, Col. Samuel Ahmedu (rtd.) has described the Abuja City Basketball League ( ACBL) which has given Nigerian Youths the opportunity to showcase their Basketball skills and make a life out of the sport.

Ahmedu who was the special guest of honour at the closing ceremony of this year’s City league in Abuja stated that, Nigeria is already reaping the dividends of the Abuja City Basketball League with products of the competition currently playing active roles in the National domestic league.

“Recently you will observe that some products in our National domestic leagues are from the Abuja City Basketball League .” Ahmedu declared.

You will also recall that, what started few years ago as Mini championship has metamorphosed into a fully-fledged Basketball League with little or no sponsorship.

“I think corporate bodies should support the organizers of this domestic basketball league, this is where we can fish out talents for the national teams, the investment in sports should start from here” Ahmedu stated.

The grand finale of this year’s championship which ended over the weekend at the indoor sports hall of the National stadium Abuja, was beehive of activities with a spectacular closing ceremony witnessed by top dignitaries and basketball loving Nigerians.

Civil defense Basketball team retained their title at the expense of Abuja All Stars team by 72 – 52 point, also in the 3rd place classification game, FCT Hard Rockers defeated Suleja Hornets by 81 – 65 point.

Top Five players of the tournament are Tunde Ayodeji, (Hard-rockers), Joel Ijigba (Civil Defense), Sani Muhammed (Suleja Hornet), Emmanuel Umeadi ( Abuja All stars) and Ibrahim Doma of Civil Defense.

Most Valuable player of the League goes to Efe Adota of Civil Defense, while Emmanuel Ndumezie won the most promising player award. The 3 points contest was won by Muhammed Usman and coach Tope Olowosulu of Civil Defense basketball club was voted as the coach of the championship.
