The European U19 soccer championship opened to a flourish of exciting games yesterday. In a group featuring Croatia,England France and Holland, the young lions began their quest for honours with a deserving 2-1 win over the French side.
Dominic Solanke put England 1-0 up from a cross from Sheyi Ojo. The Young Lions took the game by the jogular with beautifully cordinated play by Joshua Onomah, Dominic Solanke and Sheyi Ojo.
With Fikayo Tomori outstanding in defence, Dominic Solanke got his second goal of the night no thanks to Sheyi Ojo whose trickery and exuberance on the night and the introduction of pacy attacker Tammy Abraham unsettled the French team.
Revelling in their opening victory, England will tackle Holland next on the 15th and then Croatia, three days later.
