Nigeria Women Premier League champions, Rivers Angels extended their lead in group B with 4 points after a 2-0 win over Confluence Queens at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Goals from Arit Itu and Osinachi Ohale ensured Angels enjoyed the win against the team from Kogi State.

The visitors gave the hosts a good fight in the first 45 minutes, coming close on few occasions to take a lead but were unable to find the back of the net.

Rivers Angels equally had some chances of their own to take the lead but failed to convert any as they went into the half hour mark goalless.

The Port Harcourt side had the duo of Amaechi Ojini and Chioma Nworgu coming up against their former team from Kogi State.

Nworgu, who was making her first league appearance for Angels after being sidelined for some months due to injury, was unable to score against her former team likewise Ojini who came on from the bench.

Two minutes into the second half, Confluence defender, Bukola Awolusi handled the ball inside the 18-yard box and the centre referee pointed to the spot.

That decision didn’t sit well with the visitors who protested and left the field of play momentarily huddling up near the touchline.

On resumption, Angels forward, Arit Itu sent goalkeeper Ruth Sunday the wrong way as she gave the host a 1-0 lead in her second league appearance for the club.

Minutes later forward Amaechi Ojini thought she had put Rivers Angels two goals ahead when she headed in a cross from the right wing but was flagged offside by the assistant referee.

In the 80th minute, Osinachi Ohale then increased the tally with a beautiful header from close range after Gloria Iroka whipped in a delicious cross to seal a victory for the Edwin Okon led side.
