NNL Side Kogi United Sack Ishaya Jatau

The management of Nigeria National League, NNL side, Kogi United FC have asked their Head Coach, Ishaya Jatau to step aside as a result of an unconvincing start to the new season.

In a statement signed by the club chairman, Abdul Sule in Lokoja today, Jatau’s assistant Musa Abubakar will act in his capacity until a new coach is appointed.

The statement explained that the decision was reached after the club’s disappointing 1-0 loss to FC Zamfara in the Matchday one of the new season.

“We are aspiring to get promoted to NPFL this season, we tried that last year but we couldn’t succeed due to tactical deficiencies as we lost most games in the dying minutes, also our last result against FC Zamfara wasn’t encouraging.

“We have a good team but unfortunately we don’t have a good tactical approach, this has resulted in our decision and I’ve asked the chief coach, Ishaya Jatau to step aside for now and his assistant Musa Abubakar to act for now until a decision is reached in that regards for a new handler.

It’s a very difficult decision to take, but that’s the game, Jatau is a nice and great guy, he’s tried all he could but things haven’t really worked out for him so we wish him well,” said the statement.

Kogi United lost 0-1 to FC Zamfara courtesy of an 85th minute goal by Abass Abare in Gusau.

United will next host FRSC FC in Lokoja in the Matchday Two of the Nigeria National League.

Jatau Rues Kogi United’s Defeat to Kaduna United

Kogi United’s late push was not enough as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Kaduna United in their Week 12 of Nigeria National League, NNL encounter Saturday.

A fifteen minutes headed goal by Okoliko Gabriel saw Kaduna United grab the maximum 3 points against Kogi United.

The Confluence Boys could have evened the scoreline in the last fifteen minutes with two scoring opportunities fluffed and a clear penalty shout waived away by match officials when a goal bound Micheal Bolaji was tripped in the box.

Kaduna captain and goalkeeper Walbe David also had a hand in Kogi’s defeat as he kept his cool whenever he was called to action by the Coach Ishaya Jatau boys.

Jatau who was sad about the results commended his players for their fighting spirit which he said would be build on in their final home game (against Yarmalight FC).

The former Mighty Jets gaffer maintained that he believed Kogi United deserved to share the points in the very entertaining match. Jatau called on his players to focus on their next two games with a renewed belief that they can end the season on a high note.

Kogi United with 15 points will next take on FC Yarmalight in their final home game of the season in Lokoja on Saturday.

NNL: Jatau Bemoans Kogi United Defeat to Shekarau Babes

Head Coach of Kogi United, Ishaya Jatau has expressed disappointment at his side’s 0-2 loss to Shekarau Babes in their Matchday Nine of Nigeria National League, NNL, encounter played on Saturday.

A goal each from Abubakar Jados and Abdulrahman Mohammed proved decisive for the Kano based club as they saw off a challenge from United.

Jados headed in a cross from Ibrahim Musa with just eight minute into the game to put the Babes in front.

United would later fail to convert their scoring chances with Musa Jatau who first had his goal bound shot blocked.

Samson Pius, also after had his shot parried for a corner kick with a one hand safe from goalkeeper Clement Anthony.

The second half was almost similar to that of first with United let slip a run from Shekarau Babes while waiting for the centre referee Sanusi Mohammed to signal for a foul after Sanusi Pedro was pushed.

Abdulrahman Mohammed would later smash in the final kick that beat United keeper, Ogundare Detan to double the lead for the home side.

Ishaya Jatau who admitted that the game was one of his side’s below par performance noted that Kogi United were unfortunate not to convert their chances.

He said the team would however concentrate on their next double home games with the a fresh positive approach and the belief of ending the season well.

“Its a bad day for us today, this isn’t what we bargained for, the boys couldn’t get their rhythm especially in the formative stages of the halves, but its one of those days where you would push hard but couldn’t reach the target,” begin Jatau.

“We were also unfortunate with our missed chances, its difficult to get a good result when you fail to make such opportunities count and those we conceded were too cheap for our standard.

“That’s has to be put aside quickly and we must focus on our next games which are very important and must be won, I’m confident and believe we will finish the season well,” the former Inwanyanwu Nationale striker said.

Kogi United are still on Nine points and would have a chance to moving up the league table with double home games, first with hosting of Mighty Jets next Saturday in Lokoja and Sokoto United a week later.
