Nigeria’s captain to the 2018 Pyeonchang Winter Olympic Games, Seun Adigun, has revealed that teammate, Omeoga Akuoma, will serve as her brakeman, in the Bobsled event.
It’s Nigeria’s first time out at the Winter Olympics with Adigun and Akuoma participating in Bobsled.
“Honestly, this journey has been full of us standing as a trio, which is how I would have loved us to compete at the Games. Unfortunately, the rules only allow one brakeman to compete, but I had comfort from them in knowing that their competitive drive and commitment is one and the same.
“They have worked very hard and proven to be equally talented behind the sled, so this selection would give Akuoma the opportunity to compete on an international stage for the country for the first time.
“Ngozi has done Nigeria proud by bringing back medals in track and field and now Akuoma can show the country how hard she has worked to bring that same pride home,” Adigun said.
Reacting, Akuoma assured Nigerians of a formidable outing.
“My job as a brakeman is to get the sled moving to optimal speed. My goal is to push the sled as fast as I can to the best of my ability. My driver and I have been relentlessly to ensure a perfect cadence in order to hit the sled at the same time.
“This symbolizes commitment to my country,” she said. The Bobsled Team will begin their quest for medals on February 20.
