Two early second half goals from Chile Azu and Ekunta Etenfa gave promotion hopefuls, Go Round FC a 2-0 win over Unicem Rovers in the Nigeria National League.
Chile Azu had earlier missed a 2nd minute penalty when he shot into the hands of goalkeeper, James Ikugen after Nelson Esor was hacked down in the box.
After a goalless 1st half on a wet pitch, Chile Azu shook off the disappointment of his penalty miss to score in the 48th minute when Ikugen helped in his throw in from long range.
The goal seemingly charging up the home side who threw more men and balls into the attack, Odeh Obinna blatantly handled the ball in the 6 yard box and box and Ekunta Etenfa sent the goal keeper the other way.
Coach of Go Round FC, Ngozi Elechi said he was not tensed after the goaless first half but reminded his players at half time that they could always come back and win in spite of the score line.
“I wasn’t tensed, but one thing you need to know in football is that when you expect to take a lead and it didn’t come that way you will be a little tensed up.
“But seeing the way the boys approached the game today, I was delighted the way they approached the game today so it was no surprise that we scored two despite the penalty loss,” Elechi said.
The coach of Unicem Rovers, Echeng Esong blamed his boys for not following the instructions he gave to them.
“I want to say that my boys didn’t play to instructions. When it comes to a pitch that is water logged like this, you abandon whatever pattern you have and play a kind of kick and follow but they refused and wanted to put the ball on the ground.
“The two goals scored were good goals. We were supposed to have kept the ball on the ground but when we saw the pitch, I told them to play differently but they kept on playing on the ground and it failed us,” Esong said.
