The Institute of Agricultural Research and training (OAU), Obafemi Awolowo University, Moore Plantation is shopping for the sum of one hundred and fifty million naira (N150 Million) in order to host the forthcoming 16th Research Institute Games Association Of Nigeria, RIGAN tagged Oluyole 2017 scheduled to hold between 1st-10th December 2017, just as it has commenced adequate preparation for the games.
Speaking with the media on Monday, in his office the chairman, Local Organising committee for the games professor Lateef Bamidele Taiwo said that the institute has resolved to host the best of all games which is expected to have over one thousand five hundred athletes drawn from from forty Federal Research Institutes in the country.
Taiwo speaking further hinted that the money will be used to have a mini sports complex within the institute provision of hostel and purchase of sporting equipment for the school as proceeds for the hosting the games for the first time in Oyo state.
The funds, he said will also be used to take care of the officiating personel during the games so as to have a hitch free games, adding that “we are using this forum to appeal to well meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies for financial support towards hosting of a successful games though, we are aware of the current economic situation in the country but with sports, we are empowering the youths and athletes and will give them a new life. We at the institute are poised to host the best games ever in the history of RIGAN “, he said.
The LOC boss further disclosed that the Institute will host games such as: football, badminton, track and field events, basketball, table tennis, Chess, Volleyball among others. Lekan Salami stadium sports complex, iAR&T Sports Complex and University of Ibadan will host some of the events .
