Following what can be described as a bellow expectation performance by the Ondo State basketball female team Sunshine Angels in the 3rd phase of the Nigeria women basketball league at Asaba Delta state, the team has put behind them the defeat focusing on the final phase.
The team which finished third in the first and second phase at Abuja and Kaduna were unable to repeat same feat at Asaba as it finished among the bottom teams.
Reacting to the performance of the team at Asaba, chairman Ondo State Basketball Association Mr Segun IKUESAN said several factors was responsible for the team’s poor outing despite the hard work being put in place by the coaching crew which includes coach Sola Aluko and coach Fisayo Bello.
Some of the challenges identified by the sports administrator includes non payment of match bonuses, poor feeding amongst others.
Meanwhile the team has put the poor outing behind it and they are now ready to shine in Ibadan to get one of the eight slot for the final phase.
Part of the steps taking to prevent a reoccurrence and to prepare properly for the challenges ahead include paying more attention to the welfare of the players and coaches for a better outing.
IKUESAN however appealed to stakeholders, philanthropist and corporate bodies to support sports in Ondo State.
The 4th phase of the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League shifts to Ibadan, and will run from July 6 to 16 inside the Indoor Hall of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
