Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) side, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt will on Wednesday take on Abia Angels of Aba in a pre-season friendly as measures to intensify her preparation for the 2016/2017 league season.
Technical Adviser of the side, Edwin Okon confirmed the friendly to Rivers Angels Media after Tuesday’s training at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Okon said the reigning NWFL champions needed a couple of friendlies to ascertain the fitness of his girls.
The former Super Falcons gaffer said he was delighted the Commissioner for Sports, Honorable Boma Iyaye approved these friendlies.
“I have requested for a friendly from the owners of the club and they’ve approved about four friendlies for the team,” he said.
“After so much work you need to taste your job, the friendly will help me see how the new players will blend with the old ones because there is a big task ahead for the team this season. “So I am happy with the approval of the friendly matches,” he added.
The friendly match with Abia Angels holds at Abanyi in Aba by 3 pm.
The Nigeria Women Football league kicks off on March 25 and the Jewel of Rivers are expected to start their campaign on the road to Capital City Doves on April 5.
Rivers Angels is in group A alongside, Bayelsa Queens, Sunshine Queens, Heartland Queens, Ibom Angels, COD Ladies, FC Robo, Abia Angels and Capital City Doves
