Adeshina Gata scored his debut goal for Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC in a 1-0 victory over visiting Katsina United on Sunday in Ilorin. The Match Day 12 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
ABS FC’s Samuel Oyedeji wasted no time in telling Katsina United the Saraki Boys meant business on the day as his bicycle kick with just 27 seconds on the clock went inches wide.
Gata, a former Kwara United youngster beat the offside trap to score his first goal for his new club in the 25th minute of the interesting tie. The lucky Gata followed two blocked shots to score the only goal of the game.
Chukwuebuka Anaekwe of ABS FC had fired a shot at goal which was blocked by a Katsina United defender, Samuel Oyedeji followed the blocked shot with his shot. Oyedeji’s rebound found a well positioned Gata who beat the offside trap to put the ball past Dami Paul’s in goal for Katsina United to the delight of spectators at the stadium.
Dami Paul again denied Mohammed Mohammed an obvious goal in the 38th minute as the goalkeeper was well positioned to catch the lanky striker’s flying header. ABS FC controlled most of the proceedings in the first half but with many scoring chances wasted.
The visitors must have been responding to the half time team talk as they came out smoking in the second stanza, but a more determined ABS FC defense marshalled by Ernest Governor stood tall to deny the visitors a clear cut goal scoring opportunity.
The Man Of the Match award went to Chukwuebuka Anaekwe, who even though he couldn’t train on Friday and was a big doubt for the Katsina United tie still an award winning performance.
Speaking after the match, the coach of Katsina United, Baldwin Bazuaye, said both teams had a good game and gave a good account of themselves.
“ABS FC is a sound team, we played together in NNL Super 4, my boys didn’t play well in the first half but we came out better in the second half.
“It is just because of one or two mistakes that we made, My team played well today some few lapses made us lose today, we will work on it” Bazuaye said.
His ABS FC counterpart, Henry Makinwa, said he is delighted his team won today because what is most important is the three points.
“We are working hard to see the boys scoring goals, I’m working everyday to improve them, I am happy about my boy’s performance today but we always want to do more”
“Our visitors played a very good game, we should have scored more but they denied us because they have a good team too” Makinwa said.
ABS FC will now face another newly promoted side Remo Stars in match day 13 at Shagamu on Sunday.
