The much talked about Victor Ezeji testimonial will no longer hold on Saturday, December 17, 2016.
The announcement comes from the chairman of the testimonials Main Organising Committee, MOC, China Acheru.
Acheru says the decision follows consultations with officials of the League Management Company, Supersport and the Rivers State government.
“We were actually set for the big event this weekend, but after attending the Super 4 in Enugu last weekend and discussing with LMC and Supersport officials we considered a change of date.
“At the time we moved the date from 10th to 17th because of the elections in Rivers State, the date was free but we got to Enugu to find out that the Nigeria Football Federation had moved their Annual General Assembly from December 13th to 17th, the date of the Testimonial,”Acheru said.
“As a result of this, we had a choice to still go ahead with the testimonial, but after all the work, promotion and effort put into it, it wouldn’t have made sense to hold such an event without any LMC or NFF executive or club chairman, state FA chairman or secretary present too. And that was our challenge.
“On return to Port Harcourt on Monday, we had to consult with official of the Rivers State government who are behind this testimonial before the decision to postpone it was reached,” the MOC chairman revealed.
Acheru also revealed that discussions are still ongoing with the hierarchy of the League Management Company, Supersport (who will broadcast the game live) and the Rivers State government on a new date which will certainly be before the commencement of the Nigeria Professional Football League on January 15, 2017.
